Dr. Richard Patrick McGivaren, age 81, passed away on April 17, 2024. He was born on March 14th, 1943 to parents John Michael McGivaren and Pearl Geiger McGivaren. He is lovingly known as Dr. Mac or Dr. Pat to friends and family, and Pappy and Poppy to his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Mickey McGivaren and Tim McGivaren. He is survived by his children Judson Patrick McGivaren (Susan) and Jenny McGivaren Cole (Todd); grandchildren: Kaylee McGivaren, Houston McGivaren, and Patrick Cole.
After completing his undergraduate degree from Mississippi State University, Pat graduated from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1969. Upon graduation, he joined the Army as a captain. He served in Vietnam as a veterinarian to the bomb-sniffing dogs.
Moving to Rome, GA with his family in 1975, he practiced in and later bought Glenwood Veterinary Clinic. There he happily practiced veterinary medicine until 2006. In the beginning of his career he was a large and small animal vet but eventually became a small animal vet only. He quickly and lovingly became known as Dr. Mac.
He spent his life loving his family and enjoying every minute he could with them. He loved Auburn, fishing, all things history, making people laugh and loving on people especially his people in Moldova where he did missionary work for 30 years. Above all, he loved Jesus! You did not meet him without hearing about his savior.
Friends and family are cordially invited to a visitation on Saturday, April 20th, 2024 at one o'clock in the afternoon at Floyd Springs Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, April 20th, 2024 at two o'clock in the afternoon at Floyd Springs Baptist Church, 1869 Floyd Springs Road Armuchee, GA 30105.
