Megan Talley Blankenship, 39, of Lindale, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at home. Megan was born on August 24, 1978, in Rome. She attended Rome High School and North Georgia College.
Megan was a born caretaker who worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Calhoun before devoting herself full time to caring for neighbors, friends, and a menagerie of beloved cats and dogs. Her unique gift of compassion derived in no small part from her own lifelong battle to overcome significant health challenges, the most serious of which necessitated a kidney transplant when she was just 26 years old. In a profound gesture reflective of Megan's own devotion to others, her lifelong friend Ivey Harrison donated one of her own kidneys to her friend -- for which Megan and her family will remain forever grateful.
Megan is survived by the love of her life, Paul Schubert, of Lindale; her parents, Linda and Sid Blankenship, of Rome; her sister and brother-in-law, Sara and Tom Dilworth, niece Emma Dilworth, and nephew Griffin Dilworth, all of Marietta; Kay Schubert, Cedartown; aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Albert Blankenship Sr., Mildred Talley Blankenship, and Anne and Kenvyn Davies.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 3, at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church, 202 E. Third Avenue, Rome. Longtime family friend, Rev. Rex Hussmann, will officiate the service. The family will receive friends following the service in the Wilder Center.
Megan will be remembered for her infectious laugh, her love of mischief, and her fierce loyalty to those she loved. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice in Megan’s memory.
