Marye was born in Savannah, Georgia on January 13, 1927, daughter of the late Daniel Hector McArthur and the late Rosalee Edwards McArthur. She was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Frederick (Bill) William Sweitzer, Jr. on January 31, 2022, and sisters Joye Misdom of Oxon Hill, Maryland and Anne Rowell of Jacksonville, Florida.
After graduation from Savannah High School, Marye worked for Southern Bell as a long-distance operator. In 1946, she married her high school sweetheart, Bill, after he returned from military service at the close of World War II. In 1952 Marye and Bill moved their family to Rome, where Bill started Williams, Sweitzer & Barnum Engineers.
Bill and Marye were founding and lifelong members of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rome, where she was active as a nursery school teacher and a member of the Women’s Circle. She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout leader, and was a member of the Rome Jaycettes. She sang with the Sweet Adelines Choir and was a Floyd Medical Center volunteer.
She was an active outdoorswoman, who loved gardening, camping and water skiing. She and Bill traveled by motorhome throughout the United States with family and friends. Marye always said that the favorite times of her life were helping to raise the special joys of her life, her four grandsons. The boys were lucky to have a grandmother who loved them more than “all the leaves on the trees, and on the ground”.
She is survived by children Daniel Steven Sweitzer (Denise Powers), David William Sweitzer (Jackie) and Rosanne Denise Sweitzer, all of Rome. Descendants include 4 grandchildren Wesley William Sweitzer (Emily), Jeffrey Steven Sweitzer (Amanda), Matthew Devin Sweitzer and Andrew Kevin Sweitzer (Eve), 7 great grandchildren Benjamin William Sweitzer, Mary Helen Sweitzer, Rainey Elizabeth Sweitzer, Samuel Mark Sweitzer, Maxwell Christopher Martin Hansen, Aiden Mateo Sweitzer, and Mason William Sweitzer.

The family will receive friends prior to the service at 6:00 PM at the church. Private burial was previously held. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 1941 Shorter Avenue, Rome, GA 30165.
