Jane was born in her beloved hometown of Miami, Oklahoma on May 30, 1923, to the late Cedric Elmer and Alta Pearl (Faulkenberry) Tucker. She had one brother who preceded her in death. While attending Gulf Park School for Girls in Gulf Port, Mississippi she met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Allan Swanson.
The couple was married for 74 years when Bob passed away in 2016. Over the years, Bob's aviation career took them to many places, before settling in Armuchee, Georgia in 1980.
A dedicated wife and loving mother whose organizational skills and generous volunteer contributions to various organizations made her an active member of the Rome community for 37 years. For over 60 years Jane was a member of PEO, an organization dedicated to the education of women. She managed Floyd Medical Center’s “Hole-in-the-Wall” thrift shop for 20 years, and was a salesclerk in the gift shop for another 10 years. She also served as Secretary for the Rome-Floyd County Library, as Treasurer for The Rome Symphony Orchestra, and a volunteer at the Rome Area History Museum. Bob and Jane were members of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Rome.
Jane was a consummate hostess for many large gatherings at their home in Armuchee and loved to have her grandchildren all to herself in the summers! She was a fervent reader of fiction and history.
Jane is survived by five children: Margaret (Peter) Passalacqua, Jan (Bob) Sutton, Bob Swanson Jr., Jill (Gene) Jennings-McCauley, and Janie (Chuck) Wright; nine grandchildren, Elisa (Craig) Smith, Courtney Jennings, Audrey (fiancé Ben) Wright, Matthew Sutton, Jared Jennings, Jonathan Sutton, Ashlea Wahl, Amelia Jennings, and Kristin (Adan) Rodriquez; five great-grandchildren, Haley, Chloe, AJ, Kailyn, and Damian, and many family and friends scattered throughout the world.
