Lee Dempsey at age 88, Rome, GA, was called home by the Lord on Friday, June 20, 2014. Dr. Dempsey was born on September 18, 1925 in Jackson, GA. He was the son of Thomas Jackson Dempsey, Jr. and Bertha Carmichael Dempsey. Dr. Dempsey was preceded in death by his wife "Lib" Dempsey after 50 years of marriage (June 14, 1952 to February 3, 2002); a daughter Janet Elizabeth Dempsey who died in 1956; four brothers Robert Thomas Dempsey, Thomas Jackson Dempsey, III ("Baby Jack"), Ambrose Franklin Dempsey, and Alvin Hugh Dempsey; and five sisters Emily Irene Dempsey Ethridge, Anne America Dempsey Watts, Bertha Jane Dempsey Crawford, Frances Ernestine Dempsey Thomas, and Lollie Mae Dempsey Lindsey.
Survivors include his wife Norma Cantrell Dempsey (married on August 16, 2006); his son and daughter-in-law Dr. Thomas Jackson Dempsey IV and Dr. Suzanne Fischer; his son-in-law and daughter Mike and Claire Snedeker, C.P.A.; his granddaughters Savannah Suzanne Dempsey and Erin Macey Snedeker, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Dr. Dempsey had a deep love of his country and was proud to serve in World War II as a Medical Noncommissioned Officer in the U.S. Army's 41st Reinforcement Battalion from February 1944 to July 1946 ending in Amberg, Germany.
He attended the University of Geneva, Switzerland and was a graduate of the University of Georgia, Emory University School of Dentistry, and University of Montreal Canada.
Dr. Dempsey was a dentist at the Hospital in Milledgeville, GA, and later opened a dental practice in Cartersville, GA. He then moved the family to Montreal, Canada to attend orthodontic school, opened an orthodontic practice in Rome, GA in 1962, and retired in 1990. In addition to his lifelong passions for fishing and photography, upon retirement Dr. Dempsey enjoyed painting, swimming, dancing, and travel.
Dr. Dempsey was active in several organizations and fellowships: a life member of the American Association of Orthodontics, Georgia Society of Orthodontics, Georgia Dental Association, and American Dental Association: Honorable Fellows of Georgia Dental Association; Charter Member of the Cartersville Country Club; Scout Master for the Boy Scouts (Cartersville), Board of Stewards and Adult Fellowship Class at the First United Methodist Church of Rome; Former President of Northwestern Dental Society; Coosa Country Club; Thursday Morning Coffee Club; and the Prince Club.
A memorial service was held Sunday, June 22, 2014 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church of Rome with Rev. Brown officiating. The family received friends following the service in the Wilder Center at the church.

The wife, children, and grandchildren of Dr. Dempsey wish to thank the Renaissance Marquis, Floyd Medical Center 4th Floor, and Heyman Hospice for their recent dedication and caring service.
