Born November 4, 1947 to Alfred and Mabel Pettyjohn, one of several siblings. Raised in Trion, GA, she grew up leisurely, enjoying plucking green onions from her mother’s garden and spending all her time with her best friend, Rose. The two young women graduated together from Chattooga High School in 1966, and, on a vacation, found themselves dates. Ella’s date, Larry Tate, ended up as her husband, and later, the two welcomed a daughter together they named April Renee Tate.
A busy woman, Ella found employment in several industries throughout her lifetime, but she spoke most fondly of her time as a secretary at the Chamber of Commerce in Rome, GA. Not only did her love for her job introduce her to several people who went on to become longtime friends, but it also provided the opportunity for her to meet Tom Allen. The two would go on to marry in 1983, honeymooning in England.
Ella spent many wonderful years with her husband Tom, and the two of them would often spend their time taking trips with Ella’s two sisters (Betty and Barbara) and their spouses to eateries and their favorite vacation spot-- Pigeon Forge. If they weren’t traveling, the pair spent the majority of their time in their home enjoying quiet time together.
Ella was also a lover of music, enjoying Reba, Brooks-n- Dunn, and gospel songs which she sang often. Along with music, she had a passion for gardening. Ella was also a member of her local garden club as well as dedicating some of her time as the church secretary at United Methodist Church.
Above all, Ella loved her family, and she was a part of a big one. She follows her mother, Mabel Vineyard, and father, Alfred Pettyjohn, sisters, Margaret Hawkins, Betty Stoner, and Mary Nell Mull, brothers, Mitchell Hines and Ronnie Pettyjohn, her husband, Tom Allen, and daughter, April Anyzeski.
She is survived and will be remembered by her sister Barbara Farrow, her grandchildren, Chase Parker and Brianna Bartlett, and their spouses. Her great-grandchildren, Amaya, Jaxon, and Killian Bartlett, and Charlie Parker. She is also survived by many within the Pettyjohn family as well.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Johnnie Stoker for her time, understanding, patience, and commitment to helping Ella in her more difficult times.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Floyd Memory Gardens.
Daniel’s Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Allen.
