Visitation was held from 1:00 to 2:45 PM on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church in King Hall.
The funeral service was held at 3:00 PM on the same day in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church. The Reverend Jeff Chadwick of First Presbyterian officiated. Burial followed at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are being handled by Daniel’s Funeral Home.
Jim was born in Dublin, GA to Hollis and Mittie Harrington on May 24, 1943. He went to Dublin High School where he played football as the running back on the Georgia State Championship Team. He then went on to the University of Georgia where he met his future wife Jackie Robbins. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in business. Mr. Harrington owned and operated Harrington Realty for 40 years. He served on numerous real estate organizations including the Greater Rome Board of Realtors. He was awarded Realtor of the Year by the Rome Board of Realtors. He was also inducted into the Realtor Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Georgia MLS Board of Directors, as well as The National Association of Realtors. Jim received the Realtor Emeritus Award for over 40 years of service. In addition, he served on the Rome City Commission for 19 years with one year as chairman.
Jim loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder, deacon, and Sunday School teacher.
He is preceded in death by his father Hollis Harrington and mother Mittie Seymour Harrington.
Jim is survived by his wife of almost 53 years Jacqueline Robbins Harrington (Jackie), his two sons and their wives: James Hollis Harrington, Jr. (Jim) and Amy Armstrong Harrington and William Benjamin Harrington and Lisa Ludwig Harrington. He is survived by five grandchildren: Laura, Kathryn, Will, Hollis, and John David. He is also survived by his sister Ann Hamilton of Gainesville and two nieces Melissa Hamilton Crawford and Michelle Hamilton.
Pallbearers were Dr. Toby Morgan, Dr. Tom Carver, Ed Paulling, Wilson Burgess, Jamie Doss, Winston Sirmans and David Terrell. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Dempsey, Don Black, Dan Paracka, Ernie Smith and Ron Kiefer.
