Mr. Collins was born in Adairsville on March 24, 1944, the son of Velma Morrow Collins and the late Paul D. Collins.
Mr. Collins was a farmer and was also employed with the Floyd County School System as a bus driver. Flying was his passion and he had served as a pilot and flight instructor. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving in Korea and Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Lam Collins, to whom he was married August 5, 1989; two sons, Jamey K. Collins (Carrie), Kansas, and Rodney P. Collins, Adairsville; one daughter, Brooke M. Collins, Adairsville; his mother, Velma M. Collins, Rome; seven grandchildren and a number of cousins.
A funeral mass was held Thursday, August 14, 2014, at 3 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Patrick Kingery and Deacon Stuart Neslin officiating. The family received friends on Thursday from 2 until 3 p.m. at the church and a reception will follow the service in the Parish Hall.
Interment will be in at a later date.
