Harriett Cowan, age 91, of Tucker, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. A native Floridian, she was born on July 3, 1931, and raised in Ocala but had deep family roots in Dekalb County, Ga.
Harriett was a graduate of Shorter College and received her Masters of Elementary Education from the University of Florida. She was a devoted educator teaching for the Marion County Public School System and retiring from the Dekalb County School System after 34 years of dedicated classroom service. Additionally, she taught private piano lessons after school.
Harriett loved her yard. She could often be seen on the riding lawn mower, pulling weeds while listening to Braves baseball games or tending to her irises and other flowering plants. She was an avid explorer and had many grand tales about the places she visited and the people she met along the way while camping in her travel trailer. Even in her mid 80's she would hook up her trailer, load up her dogs, grab a map and campground guide book and take off down the road. But her one true passion was loving and caring for her loyal Pekingnese pets. Her canine babies were both her family and her constant companions.
Harriett was the youngest daughter of Annie Maie Stroud and Jerome Harris Cowan. She is survived by a sister Montine Cowan Bartlett of Rome and Houston TX, a beloved niece Honey B. El-Nagger (Adel) of Houston TX, a great-niece Lara Flatau (George) and their children Miles and Nora Flatau of Nashville TN, a great nephew Alex El-Nagger of Chicago IL and her fur baby Rockie.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday October 11,2022 at eleven o'clock in the morning at Eastview Cemetery in Rome Georgia.
In lieu of flowers please make a memorial contribution to the Best Friends Animal Society or Canine Companions for Independence charities in her honor.
