Mr. Worthington was born in Taylorsville, GA. December 7, 1930. He was the son of the late Homer and Annie “Maggie” Cantrell Worthington. He was also preceded in death by two children Danny Ellis Worthington and Kathy Diane Worthington Hightower and also his brothers William Curtis and Hoyt Rudolph Worthington. Left to treasure his memory is his wife of 46 years Mrs. Janice Norton Worthington; sons Dennis Edwin Worthington and his wife April of Rome, David Lee Worthington, Sr. and Susan Martin, Homer Ellis Worthington, Jr. and Joseph Wesley Worthington all of Kingston; daughters Gwendolyn Worthington Dirkes and her husband Jim of Charleston, S.C., Wanda Worthington Bonner of Kingston, and Yvonne Worthington Davenport and her husband Eddie also of Kingston. 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Frances Barker Worthington of Rome and nephew Hoyt Mitchell Worthington also survive.
Mr. Worthington graduated from Cass High School and he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his military service he began his career at Lockheed Martin on July 1, 1953 until his retirement as Lead Man on December 31, 1993 and was a member of the International Association of Machinists Local 1838. Mr. Worthington was a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, reading, working puzzles and spending time with his family. The family wishes to express a very special thank you to Heyman Hospice Care of Rome for their compassionate care.
Services for Mr. Worthington were held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church on Kingston Hwy with Rev. Jerry Branton officiating. Interment will follow in the adjacent cemetery on the church grounds. The family received friends Friday, March 18, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Daniel’s Funeral Home. Those serving as pallbearers were Jerry Tidwell, Dale Penson, Andrew Poe, Darrell Hall, Eugene Garrett and Ricky Norton. d Donald “Dock” Rawley and Johnny Taylor served as Honorary Pallbearers. During other hours the family gathered at the Worthington residence, 61 Norton Road, Kingston. Flowers were accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Heyman Hospice Care P.O. Box 163 Rome, GA. 30162-0163. Daniel’s Funeral Home has charge of the funeral arrangements.
