Mrs. Gomez-Picon was born in Puerto Rico on May 15, 1927, the daughter of the late Arturo Gomez and Mercedes Contreras Gomez.
Mrs. Gomez-Picon studied at Wesleyan College in Macon and was a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico. She worked as a technician for the American Red Cross, a biology lab assistant and then retired from the Internal Revenue Service. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. Hector R. Picon, and his wife, Michelle, Rome, and Dr. Carlos A. Picon, New York, NY; and four grandchildren, Michelle Marie, Monique, Melissa and Hector Miguel Picon.
A funeral mass was held at 11 a.m. Friday, August, 5, 2011, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rome, with Father Patrick Kingery and Deacon Stuart Neslin officiating. The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall at St. Mary’s following the memorial service.
A burial will take place at a later date in the Puerto Rico Memorial Cemetery in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
