Hazel “Haley” Hicks Miller, age 92, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018, surrounded by family. Ms. Miller was born Hazel Mae Kuhlman, on January 14, 1926, in Tuscaloosa, AL but resided in Floyd County, GA for the majority of her life.
She was a member and past President of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for several years. She worked as a Nurse during WWII and was later employed by Dr. John D. Tate for 15 years.
Ms. Miller attended Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church for 65 years and was a member of the cherished Dorcas Ladies and Bessie Myrick Ladies Sunday School Classes. Later in life she resided at Winthrop Court Senior Living Center. Ms. Miller loved to read books, line dance, go shopping, have her hair styled at the salon, listen to gospel music, tell jokes, and spend time with her family. Her friends and family say she was witty, classy, whip smart, jovial and loving, resilient, spirited, warm and caring, gracious, a true lady, a strong and spunky spitfire, the best mother and grandmother anyone could ever have, a handful, a wonderful best friend, and a devoted Christian; to know her was to love her, to listen to her speak was to respect and learn great wisdom, and to be her family was the ultimate blessing.
Ms. Miller was predeceased by her parents Raymond Henry Kuhlman and Ruby Louise Hanson; her ex-husband and father of her children, Marvin W. “Cap” Hicks; her sister Joyce Brownlow and brothers Raymond Kuhlman Jr. and Joe C. Kuhlman.
Ms. Miller is survived by her loving children, son Ron C. Hicks of Maryville, TN, daughter Debbie Hicks Vance and son-in-law Bob Vance of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Haylee, Whitney, Jared, and Taylor Vance who affectionately called her “Le-Le”; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to cordially invite friends to the visitation at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 6 to 8 PM and the funeral service at Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 2 PM.
