Mr. Melvin Lester, age 92, of Griffin, GA, passed away on September 9, 2019 at the Renaissance Marquis assisted living facility in Rome, GA. Mr. Lester was born in Edwardsville, AL on April 22, 1927 to Frances Creel Lester and Colon Lester.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 73 ½ years, Evelyn Moore Lester, a son, Richard Lester (Annette) of Rome, grandchildren, Kevin Lester (Kathy) of Calhoun and Natalie Lester Craig (Steven) of Rome, great-grandchildren, Jackson Craig and Reese Craig of Rome, sisters Agnes Hatcher, Levie Mae Fillyaw, and brother W.H. Lester and several nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, two brothers, Curtis Lester and Leroy Lester and three sisters, Laura Rhoades, Odessa Scott and Jeanette Scott.
Mr. Lester served in the United States Air Force during World War II. Throughout his life, he was a very active member of Second Baptist Church in Griffin, GA serving as a deacon, treasurer, and Men’s Sunday School teacher until he relocated to Rome, GA in 2013. He was a Mason for over 50 years and enjoyed spending time with this loving and caring family. He received annual awards for sales and excellence from Toyota Motor Corporation, which included travelling around the world.
Viewing will be held from 12:00 NOON -1:00 PM on Thursday, September 12th, 2019 at Haisten McCullough Funeral Home in Griffin, GA. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM, also at the chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Westwood Gardens and Mausoleum in Griffin, GA.
