A native of Atlanta, Mrs. Harris was born March 11, 1925, second daughter of Dr. Lon Grove and Dorothy Haverty Grove. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Grove Glover.
During World War II, Frances worked at Lawson Hospital for Amputees. Following the war she married William Henry Harris of Thomasville, Georgia, in 1947, and they moved to Rome in 1948. Together, they were part of the founding group and charter members of the Hemophilia Foundation of Georgia, where Frances served as its first treasurer. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and served on the Altar Guild for over 50 years. A founding member of Co-Vestors of Rome, Mrs. Harris was a member of the Colonial Dames of America in Georgia. She was also a member of Four Seasons Garden Club.
In addition to her parents and sister, Frances Harris was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Bill Harris, who died in 2004. She is survived by their two sons, William Grove Harris and wife Margie Ann of Acworth and Robert Patrick Harris and wife Beverly of Rome; four grandchildren: William Grove Harris, Jr. and wife Lori, Brentwood, Tennessee; Katherine Leigh Harris Kofink and David, of Thompson Station, Tennessee; Holly Brooke Harris Caesar and Robbie, Cumming, Georgia, and Patrick Brian Harris, Rome; seven great-grandchildren: Katherine Elizabeth Harris, William Grove Harris III, Connor Overton Harris, Anna Elizabeth Kofink, Phoebe Knox Kofink, Mason Reed Caesar, and Harper Bryn Caesar; two nephews: Dr. Claiborne Van Courtland Glover and Susan of Athens, and Dr. Lon Grove Glover and Erin of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and niece Dorothy Glover Gautier of Atlanta.
The family would also like to thank two very special caregivers, Melissa Crowe and Sue Crowe, for their devotion and care.
A funeral mass was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Rome on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Timothy Gallagher officiating. Visitation was held at the church from 10:00 until 11 a.m.
A reception followed the service in the parish hall. Interment was in St. Mary’s Memory Garden.
