Dwight Kinzer passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 21, 2023. He was the son of the late Henry Jones Kinzer and Jessie Elizabeth Kinzer. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Kinzer Rogers, her husband, Bob Rogers and his granddaughter, Elizabeth Kinzer Trettel.
Dwight was born in Jackson, Alabama and grew up in Evergreen, Alabama. He graduated from Evergreen High School in 1957 and entered Vanderbilt University. He received a BA Degree in Chemistry in 1961. In 1970 he received his PhD from the University of Alabama.
He married Jacqueline(Jackie) Irene Desaulniers in 1969 and moved to Rome, GA to take a position as a professor of Chemistry at Berry College. He retired after teaching organic chemistry for over 30 years.
Dwight was passionate and devoted to his work and his students at Berry. He loved teaching, but he also loved to build things. His hobby of metal working led to the development of small hot plate which heated and supported the small apparatus. A quantity of these units along with all accessories were produced in his home shop. This shop also was used to produce a machine with tooling to make aluminum sample pans with lids for thermal analysis which were marketed by KEmtec Lab Services, Inc. which was founded by Dwight and Dr. Charles Earnest. These products were sold worldwide to companies involved in research and in production of plastics, fibers and pharmaceuticals. After many years the company and tooling were sold to a competitor. Dwight donated the shop tooling to Berry College and it was incorporated into the Hackberry la which is a student/faculty shop system operated by the School of Business.
Dwight Kinzer was a man with many hobbies, but he was the most passionate about his Morgan. This car has been driven almost daily for 21 years. He and his Morgan have been on trips as far north as Nashua, NH and as far south as Key West. Dwight and his Morgan were quite well known in town. Jus a few days before his passing he was out in the Morgan getting ice cream with his beloved Scottie, Fiona. Dwight touched many lives of students at Berry College. He will be remembered for his kindness and his devotion to his family.
