Diana Dean Freeman

Diana was born on September 16th, 1940, to James Henry McWhite and Alice Lydia McWhite in Atlanta Georgia. After graduating high school, Diana went to Emory in Atlanta and then transferred to the University of Georgia where she received a degree in home economics and later went on to get her master’s in education and a specialist’s degree in special education. She spent thirty plus years as an educator, then as a director working with special needs students for multiple counties in the north Georgia area. Diana was a major advocate for the special needs community, so much so that she came out of retirement in her later years to help with privately owned facilities and families. After retirement she was able to spend more time on her hobbies which included collecting antiques, miniatures, dolls, and scrapbooking. Above all, she loved being a mom, and spending time with her grandchildren was by far what brought her the most joy. She was very loved, and will be greatly missed.

Diana was preceded in death by her parents James and Alice McWhite, and her husband Dennis Freeman. Diana is survived by her two sons, James Goss (Lek) and Bill Goss (Gloria), granddaughter Erica Ballinger (Nick), grandson Ryan Goss, two great granddaughters Ava and Mya Ballinger.

A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday February 6, 2024, at 11:30 am at the Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mount Carmel Church Ln. Canton, GA 30114.
