Carolyn Nichols Walker, 82, of Rome, GA, passed away October, 4, 2023, at her current residence in Milton, GA. She was a talented musician and well known in the community as having a creative servant’s heart. She was a devoted wife, mother, and nana.
Carolyn was born in Cedartown, GA on June 14, 1941, the daughter of the late Lloyd B. Nichols and Evelyn C, Wright Nichols. She was a 1959 graduate of Cedartown High School and attended Shorter College. She was preceded in death by Douglas Wayne Walker, married 48 years.
Carolyn served over 50 years as organist, pianist, choir director and minister of music for several area churches. Her career also included over 30 years as general contractor and landscape design consultant.
Carolyn was a member of Thistle Garden Club, Laurel District since 1976. She served in all positions on District and State Boards. She was a life member of Rome Federated Garden Clubs, Garden Clubs of Georgia, Deep South Region of National Garden Clubs, and National Garden Clubs. She was Chaplain of State Garden Club and Certified Master Gardener. Carolyn was also a member of Rome Symphony Women’s Association, Chieftains Booster, Rome Tree Board, DAR, UDC, Rome Music Lover’s Club and Floyd Auxiliary. She remained an active member of Westminster Presbyterian and served as an Elder for PC USA.
Survivors include three daughters, Lynn Walker Kirby and her husband, Steve, of Cumming, GA, and their children, Lyndsay Kirby Wilson and her husband, Timothy, and Josh Kirby; Stacey Walker Stanley and her husband, Ira, of Bonita Springs, FL; Elissa Walker Campbell and her husband, Colin, of Cumming, GA, and their children, Catie Campbell and Evie Campbell; sister, Nancy Nichols Simmons, of Alpharetta, GA; niece Michelle Simmons Payne and her husband, Chris, of Alpharetta, GA; grandnieces Becca Parham and Merritt Parham.
Honorary Pallbearers will be family members.
Services will be Tuesday, October 10, 2023, 2:00 PM at Westminster Presbyterian, Rome, GA. The Receiving of family and friends will be at Westminster Presbyterian prior to the service from 12:30 PM – 1:45 PM.
