Mrs. Moore was born in Rome on February 27, 1940, daughter of Edward William Skelton and Mary Elsie Waits Skelton. She was raised in Rome and graduated from Pepperell High School where she played defense on the basketball team. She and her husband, James T “Jimbo” Moore, Sr. were married July 16, 1971. She enjoyed motorcycle racing and all sports in which her children participated.
Carolyn rejoiced in being surrounded by family and friends. She made Holidays special times, as she loved cooking and entertaining. Carolyn enjoyed music and was especially fond of Elvis. Her favorite songs were “Mansion on the Hilltop” and “How Great Thou Art.” As an avid decorator with a flair for color, Carolyn loved home design, fashion and crafting. Known affectionately for years as “MeeMaw,” Carolyn doted on her children and grandchildren.
She was a long time employee of Glenwood School and retired in 1996 as the Cafeteria Manager. Carolyn attended Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church. She was a long time and active supporter of Glenwood and Armuchee athletic programs.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her father and step-mother, William Edward Skelton (Mary); her mother, Mary Elsie Waits Skelton and a brother Edward L. “Buster” Skelton (Lou). She is survived by her husband, James T. “Jimbo” Moore, Sr.; two sons, Scott Johnston (Kathy) and Keith Johnston; two step-sons, James T. “Jim” Moore, Jr. (Jennice), Steven Allen Moore (April), a step-daughter, Marsha Moore Floyd; sister, Louise Skelton Pittman (Buddy) of Smyrna, GA; half-sister, Sandy Skelton, of Rome; niece Pam Skekton (Lynn) and a nephew, Mike Skelton (Susan), both of Riverdale, GA. Ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Moore were held at 2 pm, Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Floyd Memory Gardens with the Reverend Marvin Jackson of East View Baptist church officiating. The family received friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Sunday from 12:00 Noon to 1:30 pm and then proceeded to the cemetery for the interment service.
Mrs. Moore’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
