Barbara was born on February 2, 1934 in Cedartown, Georgia, daughter of the late John C. and Mary Alys David. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Clarence (Boobie) Ivey of Rome and her sister Jonnie Holbrook of Cartersville. She is survived by her children, C.W. "Bo" Ivey Jr. (Kim), Clair Ivey Ford, David Edwin Ivey (Lori); nine grandchildren, Richard "Ric" Long, Beth Rogers, Jared Ivey, Courtney Cescutti (Blake), Stevie Ivey, Lindsey Bowers (Craig), Nicki Ivey, Bridget Ivey, and Emma Ivey; and five great-grandchildren, Owen Rogers, Julia Rogers, Bennett Cescutti, Levi Bowers, and Cooper Bowers. She is also survived by her sister, e'Claire Cook; and sisters-in-law, Leila Evans and Jean Ivey; along with many beloved nieces and nephews. Barbara loved her family and enjoyed giving her infamous “Nana packages” of handpicked treasurers.
Barbara grew up in Cedartown and Rome. She graduated from Rome High School in 1951. Early in her life she had a fondness for horticulture propagated by her mother’s love of gardening. In 1958 she became a charter member of Thistle Garden Club of Rome. While raising three children she continued her education becoming a National Accredited Master Flower Show Judge in 1968. She chaired five state and national Flower Shows for Rome Federated Garden Clubs, and was honored by Thistle with National, State, and Rome life memberships. Barbara attended the first Laurel District Board meeting and served on that board for thirty years. She was the driving force for Thistle as the Thistle Civic Project Chairman for thirty-seven years. She shared in the dedication of The Blue Star Marker placed in Rotary Park in Rome. Barbara helped garner five National Beautification Awards and twelve first place winners for the park she loved so much. In 2013 she was honored by Rome Rotary Club with a plaque placed in Rotary Park declaring her fifty-five years of dedication and outstanding service to her community and to her garden club. Barbara served six years on the Chamber of Commerce’s Clean Community and Beautification Committees. As a Georgia Landscape Design Appraiser, she served for six years on the Rome Historical Downtown Development Board. The City of Rome and Floyd County presented her with a certificate of appreciation for her years of service.
In keeping with her love of beauty and preservation, Barbara and her husband restored a pre-civil war plantation home in Floyd County from 1972 to 1984, which was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places. She was also known for her floral and interior design work as a local business owner.
In honor of Barbara a celebration of life memorial will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 2pm to 4pm, at Daniels Funeral Home, Rome, Georgia.
