Peggy June Dalton, 70, of Rogers, Arkansas, passed peacefully on May 6, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlon, in 1993. She is survived by her mother, Ruby Friend, of Seligman, MO, three children, Deb Cooksey and her husband Barry of Springdale, Rhonda Weaver of Rogers, Chris Dalton and his wife Michelle, of Pea Ridge. She was the eldest of eight children; one sister, Joyce Frame and her husband Dwight of Rogers, one brother Mike Jeffcoat and his wife Debbie of Rogers, two half brothers, Jordan Jeffcoat and his wife Marquette of Hopkinsville, KY, Derrick Friend and his wife Judy of Seligman, MO, one step sister, Karen Parker of Baltimore, MD, two step brothers, Stanley “Butch” Friend of Virginia and Rick and Roxanne Jeffcoat of Little Rock.
Peggy had three loving grandchildren, Tracy Curtis and her husband, Jason of Rogers, Aryn Dalton and his wife Cheri of Dallas, TX, Rhiannon Steele and her husband Shaun of Rogers. She has seven great grandchildren, Alexandria Easley, Carolyn Weaver, Emma Curtis, Eve Steele, Scarlet Dalton, Chase Jeffcoat and Madison Curtis and numerous nieces and nephews that she also adored.
Peggy was born in New Deal, Texas, where she gave up an offer to model for a small clothing chain to marry the love of her life when she was only 14. She married Harlon on January 2, 1954, only because there was no one to marry them on New Year’s Day. Harlon was a free spirit who raced horses for a living. His career would take her across the country to New York, Toronto, Miami, DC, Albuquerque and Hot Springs, before settling in Northwest Arkansas. He became a commercial Contractor and build their dream home where they lived and celebrated almost 40 years of a loving marriage before he passed in December of 1993.
Peggy was an artist who had a passion for painting still life and nature. She was an avid reader who challenged herself daily with word puzzles, numbers and believed in the importance of always learning and keeping the mind challenged. She supported many charities, including our disabled Veterans. She was a stay at home mother until her children were grown. She worked for H & R Block in the early 1980’s, then became a tax null on her own. She continued to work as a bookkeeper for the family business up until her passing.
Married life would take her on a nomadic ride from spontaneous trips to the ocean, summer in Canada, to the night life of New York City. She was wide eyed, small town girl that was thrust into the fast paced lime light of the big city at a very early age. While a dream life for some, she preferred the simple life of having her children fill her kitchen for snacks, conversation and laughter.
She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Rogers and a woman of strong faith. Her favorite quote was “Give me roses while I live.” Her roses were her family.
