Normadene Genell Nelson, 95, went to be with the Lord Jesus on March 31, 2025 at Promenade Health and Rehab in Rogers, Arkansas. She was born May 17, 1929 near Seminole, Oklahoma to Luther and Allie May Coffey. She grew up in Letha, Oklahoma where her father worked in the oil field and pastored the Letha Community Church.
She met her future husband while he was preaching at her father’s church on Christmas Eve in 1950. She and Charles Edward Nelson were married on May 20, 1951, in Letha, Oklahoma. Normadene was a Commissioned Song Evangelist for the Church of the Nazarene. Her husband was a registered evangelist in the Church of the Nazarene for 20 years before retiring in 1985. Out of all of their preaching engagements, Normadene played the accordion or piano and sang in all but one revival. She enjoyed drawing and music. She was a longtime member of the Rogers First Church of the Nazarene.
Normadene was preceded in death by her husband in 2004; brother, Glenn Coffey and sister, Lazelle Pitts.
She is survived by her nieces, Judith Moyer of Cushing, Oklahoma and Priscilla Rudd of Lake Houston, Texas; nephew, Stanley Pitts of Madison, Wisconsin; and great nephews, David Pitts, Mark Pitts, Russell Moyer, Robert Lee and Patrick Lee.
A graveside service and interment will be in the Rogers City Cemetery on April 7, 2025 at 10:00am. Arrangements by Rollins Funeral Home, Rogers, Arkansas.
