In his early years, John served in the United States Air Force for four years. During this time, he proudly fought for his country in the Vietnam War. Later in life, he met his wife, Mary, and the two were happily married for 46 years. John worked at Ball Metalpack in Springdale for over 20 years, and he dedicated many hours to this company and eventually retired from there. Prior to that, he had worked many jobs becoming a jack-of-all trades including working on a cattle ranch in Wyoming, he worked on the Saturn V rocket program with Grumman and drove semi-trucks delivering goods cross country.
In his spare time, John enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He and Mary attended church in Bella Vista for over 20 years and were dedicated members. John was known for his witty sense of humor which always left an impression on those that knew him. He leaves behind family and friends that will dearly miss him.
John is preceded in death by: his parents, Archie and Alice Alton; brothers, William Darwin Alton and Tom Alton; son-in-law, Kevin Taylor; and grandson, Michael Smith.
He is survived by: wife, Mary Alton of Bella Vista; daughters, Diana Archer (Mark) of Gravette, Alice Eutsler (Thad) of Aurora, Missouri, Alicia Taylor of Crain, Missouri, Alanna Cartwright; son, Jake Alton (Sally) of Frisco, Texas; stepson, Rick Delp of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is also survived by sisters Helen Atkins (John), Geneva Murry, Janet Owens, Lavern Jones, Genevie Roberts, and his half-brother Eric Alton, as well as 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 19 at 1:00pm at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers, Arkansas.
