Jack Garner, 89, of Rogers passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2012. Born on October 1, 1922, in Calico Rock, Arkansas, he spent his early years there before moving to Rogers in 1933. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1940 and played high school sports and continued to be a fan throughout his life. He served as a weather forecaster in the armed forces in WWII in the European theatre and was an active member of the Lions Club for several years.
Jack worked with his father at Garner Grocery until 1959 when he joined Phelps-Powell Building Supply as general manager. He bought the business (now Garner Building Supply) in 1984 and retired in 1989.
He was a minister of the gospel at Garfield and Pea Ridge Churches of Christ for several years and served as an elder for Southside Church of Christ in Rogers for 24 years. He was a current member of the Pea Ridge Church of Christ.
He married Rosemary Hubbard in 1952, and they worked together in business and in their church work for the 59+ years of their marriage. Those who knew him quickly recognized him as a man of great faith and love for the Lord. He was foremost a devoted Christian known for his service and kindness to others.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hubert E. and Ruth Garner and brother Darrow Garner.
Survivors include his wife Rosemary; daughter Nancie Bailey (Jimmy) of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; son Reece Garner (Sherri) of Seligman, Missouri; grandchildren Kia Garner Fitzgerald (Matt), Landon Garner (Brandi), Kyndall Garner, Jocelyn Bailey, and Laura Bailey Franklin (Ted); and great-granddaughters Brynlee and Emma Grace Garner.
Visitation for Jack will be Tuesday, January 17, 2012 from 4-7pm at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. A memorial service will be 2 pm Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the funeral home. Jack will be buried in Benton County Memorial Park Cemetery in a private family service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Green Valley Bible Camp, PO Box 65, Rogers, AR 72757; Rogers Historical Museum; or Rogers Public Library.
