Howard spent his childhood in various locations. He attended Sunnyside School in Rogers until he enlisted in the Marine Corps at 17. Howard served in the Cuba Conflict of 1962 and beyond at various military assignments and training schools. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in October of 1963, and he then joined the Army National Guard in September 1977 and was honorably discharged in May of 1996. Howard retired a Motor Sergeant E-7. One of Howard’s last assignments as Motor Sergeant was during Desert Storm. One of Howard’s most treasured medals was his bronze star awarded during that assignment. He received the Army Commendation medal and the Good Conduct medal twice, along with various other rewards during his military career.
Howard was known as a hard worker at whatever job or assignment he held; he was full of determination, and always set the next goal to reach or ambition to fulfill. His life experiences, as well as his various work experiences, were varied and filled with hardship and pain – yet he was determined to see the good that he desired in life so strongly.
Howard is the father of four sons, Chris, Mike, Chuck, and Scott McDaniel; the Grandfather to numerous descendants, and the proud great-grandfather to several; as well as several step-grandchildren.
Howard had not been healthy for many years and suffered many medical emergencies and difficulties. Diabetes in his later years totally interfered with his mobility and quality of life.
We will miss him for his sense of humor, his zest for life, his love of nature, and his joy and desire to better his situation in life.
He was received by his loving family and Christa, his wife of 20 years.
