Oklahoma and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at
Circle of Life Hospice, Bentonville, Arkansas. Visitation will be held at
Rollins Funeral Home, Rogers, Arkansas, on Friday evening, June 25, from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of
Centerton, Arkansas, on Saturday, June 26 at 10:00 A.M., by Stuart Bell and Dennis Cornwell.
Survivors include his wife, Lila J. Cornwell and three children, Vickie
(Sonny) Schrock of Central City, Iowa; Dennis (Laura) Cornwell of
Mokane, Missouri; Todd Cornwell of Bentonville, Arkansas; a brother,
Richard Cornwell of Grove, Oklahoma; sisters, Joyce (Robert) Koett of Mt.
Pleasant, Iowa and Karen (Jerry) Pleasant of Burlington, Iowa. He is also
survived by his grandchildren: Derek Schrock, Jesse Cornwell, Brandon
Schrock, Brynn Schrock, Joel Cornwell, Austin Cornwell, and Braden
Cornwell and great-grandchildren; Hunter Schrock, Rylee Schrock, Ashlyn
Willits, Millie Cornwell, Aiden Schrock, Colton and Austin Reid.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Alma Cornwell; brother, Donald Cornwell of Burlington, Iowa; and infant son, Michael R. Cornwell.
Earl was born December 31, 1930, in Winfield, Iowa and graduated from
Burlington High School in 1949. He served in the United States Naval
Reserve following graduation. Earl married Lila J. Welch on January 1,
1956. He started working at Collins (Rockwell) in 1957 and retired from
Rockwell International in 1990. Earl was a member of the First Baptist
Church, Centerton, and previously had been a member of the Lion’s Club
and Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Department in Toddville, Iowa.
Earl’s interests included traveling, camping, fishing, and reading. He had a
love for people and demonstrated a quick wit that endeared many. Earl was
involved in the lives of his grand-children and enthusiastically supported the
Iowa Hawkeyes.
The family appreciates all the loving care provided by the dialysis
technicians, doctors, and nursing staff over the last thirteen and a half years and the staff at the Circle of Life Hospice.
