Bobby Joe Dickey, 83, of Rogers departed this life on June 1, 2013 to be with his Lord. He was born in Coweta, Oklahoma on June 30, 1929 to the late Robert W. and Verda W. (Wasson) Dickey. At the age of three his parents moved back to their home in Richland, AR. There he learned to hunt and fish in the beautiful hills and creeks of Searcy County, where he visited often as an adult. He told many entertaining stories and had fond memories of growing up on Richland Creek.
He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and served in many foreign countries and fought during the Korean War. He retired after 20 years, at age 37, during which time he was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation while serving with the 7th Signal Company, 7th Infantry Division. After retiring, he owned and operated Dickey’s Car Wash in Rogers for 25 years. He became a Christian when he was baptized in June, 1965, and was a member of the Downtown Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley (Self) Dickey of Rogers; son, Joe Dickey and wife Tina of Rogers; daughter Lynda Taylor and husband Bill of Jonesboro, AR; 4 grandchildren, Rachel Taylor Poag of Jonesboro, Brooks Taylor of Fayetteville, Jalen Dickey and Logan Dickey of Rogers; two great grandchildren, Mason and Taylor Poag of Jonesboro.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Jane Dickey.
His funeral service will be Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at 10:00 am in Rollins Funeral Chapel, with burial to follow at Fayetteville National Cemetery. A visitation will be Tuesday, June 4, 2013 from 5 until 7 pm.
