Ann Samples, 79, of Rogers, Arkansas passed away September 10, 2014 in Springdale, Arkansas. She was born on April 11, 1935, in Newark, NJ, to the late Hazel Hendrickson. She was the loving wife of the late Sergeant Major John Edward Samples, USMC (Retired), better known as “Sarge”, to those who knew him well.
She was a very strong, compassionate woman, who was in the practice of helping others in any way she could. Ann was active in volunteering for the Battered Women’s Shelter in Rogers. She was a member of VFW Axillary, Post 3031, and VFW Lifetime Member. Ann was a military wife first, who taught her children and grandchildren to respect and love others.
Ann enjoyed dancing and attended all the local Marine Corps Balls with her husband “Sarge”. During her work career she served as a Union Steward at AT&T for many years, a position of which she was very proud.
She is survived by her daughter, Erin Harriman (Chuck) of Rogers, Arkansas; son, Mike Samples (Terri) of Springdale, Arkansas; brother, Jack Hendrickson (Holly) of Moorestown, New Jersey; sisters, Joyce Cooke (Larry) of Summerfield, Florida, Karen Hendrickson of Rogers, Arkansas; and Judy Kost, of Centerville, Pennsylvania; son-in-law, Steve Sawyer of Rogers, Arkansas ; daughter-in-law, Tracy Samples-Bassler of Hiwasse, Arkansas ; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son Patrick Joseph Samples; daughters, Kathleen (Kathy) Samples, and Baby Girl; a grandson Gustav Wolfgang Volker; brothers, Robert and Donald Hendrickson; and a sister, June Pekrol.
A visitation will be Monday, September 15, 2014 from 5 until 7pm in Rollins Funeral Home Chapel. Her graveside service will be on Tuesday September 16, 2014 at 11am in Fayetteville National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be provided by the VFW, Post 3031 in Rogers, Arkansas.
