On Saturday, July 27, 2013 Herbert E. Kaplow of Falls Church, Virginia passed away at the Virginia Hospital Center after suffering a stroke. He was 86.
Beloved husband of Betty Rae Kaplow, devoted father of Steven, Bobby and Larry. Loving brother of Bernice Frank, who preceded him in death, and Naomi Michael. Also survived by Charlotte Kaplow, Kate Kaplow and Margaret Kaplow; grandchildren Alexandra, Sara and her husband Nicholas McClusky, Madeline, Maxwell, Molly and Sadie Lou.
Herbert Kaplow was born in New York. He graduated from Flushing High School, Queens (NY) College and Northwestern University's Medill journalism school and served in the Army. He was a television and radio news correspondent for NBC and ABC from 1951 to 1994. He covered the Nuremberg trials, the Cuban revolution, the Civil Rights Movement, 10 presidential elections and several presidents. He is a member of the Medill alumni Hall of Achievement.
Funeral services will be held at Temple Rodef Shalom in Falls Church on Wednesday, July 31 at 11 a.m. followed by a graveside service at King David Memorial Gardens and a reception at the Westwood Country Club in Vienna. Family will be receiving friends at the residence of Steven Kaplow, 702 Hillwood Ave., Falls Church on Thursday, August 1., from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
