Bill was born in McAndrews, KY, to William H. and Gusta Farley Reid, Jr. on November 25, 1943. His family moved to Fort Pierce, FL in 1956. Bill went to Dan McCarty High School and graduated in 1963. After graduation Bill served in the U.S. Army for three years which included an eighteen month tour in Germany. After being honorably discharged from the Army he returned home to work at Piper Aircraft in Vero Beach FL for two years and Grumman Aerospace Corporation for two years. He then hired on with AT&T where he spent the next 33 plus years of his working career. During his career with the telephone company he witnessed many advances in technology and all of the name changes: Bellsouth to -Southern Bell and back to AT&T at the time of his retirement.
Bill married Linda Anderson on October 22, 1967; they were blessed to have 53 years together. They moved to Brevard County in 2005 in order to be near their granddaughter.
He had a variety of interests and hobbies including: bowling, fishing, reading, magic, as well as square and round dancing. He also enjoyed many types of music, movies and live theater (especially if his granddaughter was in the production).
Bill had numerous accomplishments. He was a Past Master of Vero Beach Masonic Lodge #250. Assistant Scout Leader of Troup 479, St Lucie County, Certified Scuba Diver, and worked with other telecommunication retires on the Talking Book Program refurbishing machines for the blind. He served on the Audio Video Team of First Baptist Church Cocoa, as a delegate on the Florida Federation of Square and Round Dance, as Vice President of the Central Florida Square Dance Association and President of Space Trackers Square Dance Club.
Bill loved the Lord, his country, his family and friends. His gentle smile and friendly personality drew people of all ages to him. He will be missed by his family and anyone considering him a friend.
Bill is survived by his wife Linda Reid, Melbourne, son Ryan C. (Diana) Reid, Cocoa, daughter Sheila E. Reid, Melbourne, granddaughter Shannon A. Reid, Cocoa, sister Carol (Alan) Rhodes, Ft. Pierce, sister-in-law Leta (Lee) Jenkins, Ft Pierce, nieces Taylor Jenkins, Ft. Pierce, Sherry (Aaron) Ledlow Gulf Hammock, nephews Gary (Cheri) Rhodes, Ft. Pierce, Henry Rhodes, Ft Pierce, and other loving relatives.
Visitation will be at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 South US Highway 1, Rockledge, FL, on December 19, 2020 from 2:00 pm till 3:00 pm The funeral service will begin at 3:00 pm. Pastor Rich Lively of First Baptist Church Cocoa will be officiating.
