Velma M. Smith

Velma Marie Smith passed away on Monday, December 30th. She was the daughter of Marie and Jeff Reed, the last of eleven children. Her siblings, Geary, Hiram, Rufus, Olen, Milton, Lester, Florence, Doris, Hilda and Carmen, predecease her. She is survived by her husband, Elwin Miller Smith, daughters Arlene Ring and Karen (Kat) Smith, grandson Jordan Ring, and her faithful four-legged companion, Tracker.

A Louisiana native, as an Air Force wife, she lived in Kansas, Texas, Louisiana, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Japan before moving to Brevard when her husband came to work at Patrick in space operations.

She majored in Physical Education and minored in French at Bethany Peniel College in Oklahoma, and coached women’s basketball in Yukon, Oklahoma. A member of the Satellite Beach United Methodist Church for many decades, she was proud of her tenure as the Director of Education and her role in initiating the Preschool program, which she continued to support throughout her life.

She was a friend to everyone she met, a warm, loving mother and wife.

Visitation will be on Saturday at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial 5950 S US Hwy 1 Rockledge, FL. Funeral Service will be at the United Methodist Church, 450 Lee Avenue, Satellite Beach, Sunday, January 5, 2020 at 2pm, followed by interment at Florida Memorial in Rockledge.
