Ruth Adams Greene, 84, passed peacefully on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 in Rockledge, Florida. She was born at home on the farm in Headland, Henry County, Alabama on April 24, 1928. Ruth came to Brevard County in 1966 from Savannah, Georgia. She was the 10th born of eleven children to Robert Lee Adams and Mamie Long Melvin.
She worked in the newspaper industry as a teletype operator and proof reader, and retired from Florida Today after a 25 year career. Ruth, a loving mother and grandmother, was an avid reader and loved animals. She was a Christian, a believer in Jesus Christ and a member of the First Baptist Church of Cocoa.
She was the wife of the late Cecil Wayne Greene, who also retired from Florida Today. At the time of his death, they had been married for 53 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Janet Elaine Shaffner of Rockledge, Florida and Cecile Ann Gibson (Russell) of Jacksonville, Florida. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, Kevin Gibson of Valdosta, Georgia, Julie Santee (Will) of Jacksonville, Florida, and Leah Gordon (Michael) of Bellaire, Michigan; and three great-grandchildren, Stevie and Laura Santee, and Molly Gordon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased in death by five brothers, Daniel, Charles, Max, Grady and Benjamin (Bud) Adams; and five sisters, Martha Milam, Imogene Henderson, Blondell Copelan, Dorothy Beamon and Rachel Windsor Ott.
Florida Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements, 5950 South U.S. Highway 1, Rockledge, FL, 32955, (321) 636-8943. Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church of Cocoa on Monday, April 1, 2013 at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. The graveside service will be held at Florida Memorial Gardens immediately following the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to First Baptist Church of Cocoa.
