Mrs. Rose Mary Greco Martin, 87 formally of Melbourne, Florida passed away Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Grandview Assisted Living in Franklin, NC. She had lived in Franklin, NC for over 9 years at the home of her daughter, Beckie.
Rose Mary was born in Cambria, WV the last of 8 children born to Giovanni and Filomena Greco, but resided in Lumberport, WV for over 19 years until meeting the love of her life, Harold Martin. They were happily married for over 58 years before Harold passed away in 2000. They had two children a son, John A. Martin and wife, Michelle, of Grants Pass, OR and daughter, Rebecca "Beckie" A. Martin-Huber of Franklin, NC. Three grandchildren, Lisa E. Spann and husband, Walt, John A. Martin and wife, Stacie, and Patrick E. Martin and wife, Sara; and one great-grandchild, Taylor Martin all of Melbourne, FL. She also has numerous nieces and nephews.
Rose graduated from Lumberport High School in 1942 and was a homemaker and when her last child was in high school she went to work at Eau Gallie High School in the Cafeteria. She then went to work for Acopian Manufacturing Co. in Melbourne and was there for 14 years before she retired to travel and have fun with her beloved Harold. In 2002 she moved to Franklin, NC to live with her daughter.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Thomas P. Greco; and sisters, Julia Greco Secreto, Natalie Greco Medina and Theresa Greco Ellis.
Rose was a proud 37 year Breast Cancer Survivor. She attended all of the Relay For Life events until her declining health could not permit her to do so.
She will be remembered fondly by all of those who knew her and she will be greatly missed.
She can now dance with Harold forever. She was a Catholic and enjoyed going to her two churches, Ascension Catholic Church in Melbourne, FL and St. Francis of Assisi in Franklin, NC.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 16, at Ascension Catholic Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Per her wishes she will be interned next to Harold in Fountainhead Memorial Park in Palm Bay, FL. There will be no services in Franklin, NC.
