Robert "Bob" Hicks

Robert “Bob” Hicks, 83, of Merritt Island, passed away on August 20, 2021. He was born in Pageland, SC (September 7, 1937) and grew up in Charlotte, NC where he and his wife Joan (nee Wittman) lived on the same street. They came to Merritt Island in 1958 just days after their marriage.

Once in Florida and after working local construction jobs, Bob founded Hicks Construction Company in 1961 which still exists today. An avid sports fan, Bob was an early member of the Merritt Island High School Quarterback Club and participant in the East Merritt Island Little League and Lassie League. Truly, nothing made him happier than playing / watching sports, fishing and winning at liar’s poker, slot machines and lottery tickets.

Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan; his children Joe Hicks (Sheila), Janet Hicks and Randy Hicks; his grandchildren Naomi McBride (Matt), Robert “Bobby” J. Hicks, Jr. (Amanda), Sarah Steele (Rob) and Becca Sturdevant (Gary); and 15 great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his sisters Norma Johnson and Brenda Hickes.

A visitation gathering will be held on Thursday, August 26 at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 South US Highway 1, Rockledge, FL 32955 from 1:00pm to 2:00 with a funeral beginning at 2:00pm.
