He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He attended the University of Tampa upon his discharge and, later, the University of Miami, where he graduated in 1958 with a BBA in accounting. He worked for NASA and other federal agencies throughout his career.
On November 8, 1959, he married Alexis Apollony, then a nurse at Doctor’s Hospital in Coral Gables. Together they raised three children: Helene and Barbara, of Melbourne, and Bill (Sarah) of Atlanta, Georgia. Rex lost Alexis in 1997 but continued to enjoy his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for the rest of his life.
Burial is at Florida Memorial Gardens.
