Peggy (McBride) Futch Koivu, age 97, died September 14, 2021, at Wuesthoff Brevard Hospice & Palliative Care in Rockledge, FL. Ms. Koivu was born September 16, 1923, in Midway, FL to William and Lily McBride. She is survived by her daughter Peggy (Tiny) Williamson of Maryville, TN, sons William (Bo) (Karen) Futch of Cocoa, FL, and Finis (Kathleen) Futch of Merritt Island, FL and two sisters and one brother. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
Ms. Koivu is predeceased by husbands Horace Futch and Reino “Ray” Koivu, son Horace Futch Jr., son-in-law Theodore (Ted) Williamson and grandson Gene Williamson.
Peggy enjoyed earning extra money making and mending fishing nets for local fishermen. She also worked at Roy’s Bait House where her grandchildren have fond memories of working alongside her dipping minnows and learning to make change.
Her grandchildren will always remember her playing the guitar and singing Candy Kisses and Little Brown Jug at all the family gatherings. She enjoyed crocheting which turned into cherished gifts at birthdays and Christmas. Crafting with her grandchildren was always so much fun. The girls always loved going to Granny’s to play paper dolls. She always had a drawer full of grape sodas in her fridge. The boys remember using her recliner as an airboat and eating fresh fish and grits for breakfast.
Everybody knew Peggy as Granny and she accepted everyone. She loved her birthday and looked forward to celebrating each year with all her family. She was very proud of having 5 generations.
Visitation will be held September 24, 2021, at 10:00 AM followed by services at 11:00 AM at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, Rockledge, FL.
