Patricia U. Shuman

We celebrate the precious life and Heavenly homecoming of Patricia (Pat) Shuman. She passed away in her sleep after having spent the entire day being surrounded, loved and cared for by her family. She was proceeded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, William (Bill) Shuman. Together, they shared a life of love and many wonderful memories. She leaves behind her grateful children, Craig Shuman (Ruth), Tamela Loucel (Frank), Teresa Smith (Bradley), and Kirk Shuman as well as eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren (with number 10 on the way). She cherished and valued all her precious family and many dear friends.

Pat was born in Daytona Beach, Florida to John Jesse Upson and Helen Catherine (Potts) Upson. As third generation Floridian on her father’s side, Pat came from some of the first settlers to the Flagler Beach, FL area. She also had the blessings of heritage from her mother’s family who hails from the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina, spending much of her childhood there in Balsam, NC as well.

As the eldest of her three sisters Carolyn Baumann (Jerald), Deborah Reynolds (Terry), Michaele Hudson (Kelly) and her brother “Little” Johnny Upson (Infant, deceased), she took on many duties and responsibilities at an early age. Those responsibilities and her caring heart were the beginning of what would later make one of the world’s finest human beings. She dedicated her life to God and her family with the knowledge that it was through the guidance from the Holy Spirit that she was best able to reach and help others during her time here. She led her children to the saving knowledge of The Father’s gift of salvation through His son’s death, burial and resurrection and she certainly heard the words from our Lord, “Well done thy good and faithful servant.”

As a mother with young children starting school, Pat was involved with the PTA organization, volunteering her time as a “Gray Lady” in the school’s clinic and occasionally serving as a substitute teacher. As her children got into their teens, Pat worked for a dental office in downtown Eau Gallie, FL. She started in an administration position, but eventually ended serving dual roles, assisting the dentist daily in his small practice. Always possessing the gift of creativity, she utilized the resources that were provided to her household. This created not only a practical application to her creative mind and talents, but also incredible enjoyment to those around her benefiting from those talents.

Pat always loved antiques, dishes, and collectables. She used to say, “I never met a dish I didn’t like.” She was very interested in those subjects and many others and read many books to broaden her knowledge. More importantly for her were the people she met and the lifelong friendships she formed with others in that pursuit along the way.

To those who have had the privilege of knowing Pat Shuman during some point in their life, we ask that you lift a prayer of gratitude for her life and ask also for a prayer of peace to those who feel a great loss here now in her absence.

John 14: 1-3 & 6-7

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house had many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you with me that you also may be where I am. I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him.
