Michael was born at Pease AFB in Portsmouth New Hampshire on July 26, 1979. He traveled with his Air Force family living in a number of states including Maine, South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Michigan, and Florida. He was a graduate of Plant City High School, Florida and the University of South Florida in Tampa.
Mike completed the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Course at USF and was subsequently assigned as an Air Battle Manager with the AWACS squadron at Robins AFB, GA. He was reassigned after one year to Kadena AFB, Okinawa Japan as the squadron section commander of an aircraft maintenance squadron for two years. His third assignment was to Creech AFB Nevada where he was squadron section commander in the maintenance section of the Predator Drone program.
Mike left the Air Force after four years as a Captain to attend Barry University School of Law where he graduated in 2010. He was a member of the Florida Bar Association and worked as an Associate Attorney at Lender Legal Services in Orlando Florida.
Mike died in a hiking accident while on vacation in Juneau, Alaska on July 4, 2015; he was 35 years old. Mike is survived by his mother Carla, father Bruce, and brother Christopher of Melbourne, FL., grandfather Carl R. Purple of Murfreesboro, TN., aunt Joy Bradbury of Peru, ME., uncle Scott Blaisdell of Dixfield, ME., uncle Jay Blaisdell of Lincoln, NH., uncle Tom Purple, of Wyndmoor, PA., aunt Melanie Harding of Hillsville, VA., and uncle Jon Purple of Thornville, OH.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, July 19, 2015 at 1:00pm at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 South US Highway 1, Rockledge FL. A Celebration of Life will follow at the same location.
