With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Melva Lee Patterson, our loving and devoted granny, mother, and friend to all whose lives she touched, on May 19, 2024. Melva passed away peacefully, surrounded by family.
Melva was born April 25, 1934, in Lumberton, North Carolina, she was the daughter of Berlin and Ada Lee Campbell. Melva was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond “Hank” Patterson and her brother, Edward Campbell.
Melva was an active member of the Woman of the Moose for many years and spent most of her social time with her husband and friends at the Melbourne, Florida chapter. Melva had a spirited personality and enjoyed country music and dancing. An illness in 2017 lead to the loss of her leg but she still tried to be as active as possible and maintain her funny disposition.
While Melva was her name, most that had the pleasure of knowing her referred to her as granny. She was a spit fire and always said what was on her mind. She was admired for being a woman that loved God and her family. She read her Bible and her daily devotions every night until her failing eyesight would no longer allow. Charles Stanley was her favorite preacher and she watched him religiously every Sunday. It was her dying wish that all her family find their way to the Lord and grow stronger as a family.
Melva leaves behind a legacy of love and countless memories that will be cherished by her surviving family members. Her daughter, Erleen Patricia Armet, her granddaughters, Rhondalee Michelle Webster and Joanna Michelle Walling, and her three great-grandsons, Robert “Tres” Ward Fontaine, Quenton Tanner Fontaine and Aiden Brantley Fontaine along with extended family, Joann O’Neil.
The funeral service will be held at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home, 500 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301, Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Melva will be laid to rest at Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a contribution be made to the Salvation Army, an organization that was very dear to Melva.
