Martha graduated from school and became a beautician in her early adult life. During WWII she helped the war effort as one of “Rosie the riveters”. After marrying, the family moved to Long Beach, California. When their girls were all school age she continue her education and worked as a head bookkeeper at the Long Beach School Employee's Federal Credit Union. Upon retirement she moved with her husband Earl to Florida. During retirement she enjoyed varied hobbies. She was skilled in sewing, quilting, needlework, oil painting, fishing, card games and puzzles. She loved reading her Bible and going to Bible studies.
She was an amazing cook and enjoyed having people over to visit and talk about the main focus of their married life - her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. After giving their lives to Jesus in 1960 they devoted their lives to serving others through the ministries of the Navigators and home Bible studies. They spent many years working with servicemen at the Long Beach Servicemen's Center in the early 1960's. Through Bible studies many life-long relationships were formed. Even in their retirement and the rest of their lives, they continued ministering to others. She endeared herself to many through her humor and quick wit. In their years in Florida, they enjoyed attending Covenant Presbyterian Church of Palm Bay, and recently she worshiped at Grace Bible Sanctuary of Palm Bay.
