The Dear Lord has called His faithful servant, Madeleine Gabriel (Salmon) Kelley to her final resting place with him in Heaven. She was called to him peacefully on February 28, 2021 from her home with family surrounding her.
Madeleine, known as Madge to her friends, was born January 22, 1935 in Chicopee, Massachusetts to Marguerite and Oswald Savaria. She attended school there and graduated with a teaching degree from the Elms College. She taught grade school for some time until she met and married Thomas P. Salmon and moved to Vermont. They eventually settled in Bellows Falls where Tom eventually went on to become a two-term Governor and Madge dutifully and graciously performed the role of Vermont's First Lady.
Madge lovingly raised four children in Vermont; Anne Marie (Salmon) Darby, Marguerite Salmon, Thomas M.Salmon and Caroline (Salmon) Griffin who all survive her. Madge is also survived by six grandchildren: Courtney Nicholas, Thomas S. Salmon, Eliza Salmon, Madeleine H. Salmon, Lucy Rios and Kai Griffin, all of whom she was extremely proud of.
Madge and Tom divorced and years later she met and married Dr. Donald L. Kelley, a retired Naval cardiothoracic surgeon and later, family physician. They together relocated to Austin, Texas where Don became the Assistant Commissioner of Health for the State of Texas. They happily enjoyed Texas life there for 10 years until Don's passing. Madge eventually relocated to Indialantic, Florida to be closer to family living there.
Madge's enjoyed many things in life, including golf, reading, travel and spending time with family. She was a generous and kind person who never had a negative thing to say about anyone. She felt very strongly about doing a kind thing every day and never passed a stranger without a smile. She had a very close relationship with the Lord and was a practicing Catholic and member of Ascension Catholic Church at the time of her death. In her final words to her children, she told them how very proud of them that she was, she told them to continue to work hard and be kind to others and to always keep faith in the Lord.
She now rests with him in eternal peace, and will be forever missed. Funeral arrangements at Ascension Catholic Church will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 11:00 am with a Celebration of Life to follow at the Darby's; 1123 Balmoral Way in Melbourne. Madge will eventually be interred in Austin, TX with her husband Don.
