Lorraine Irene Fitzgerald

Lorraine Irene (Skuce) Fitzgerald, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend peacefully passed on to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at the age of 88, surrounded by family in Rockledge, Florida.

First and foremost, Lorrie will be remembered as a loving mother who always cared for her family with the utmost devotion and unconditional love. She is survived by her son, Phillip Fitzgerald (Diane), daughter, Cynthia Hambidge, sisters, Beatrice Martin and Barbara Brommers, grandchildren, Kenneth, Jeffrey, Justin, Ryan, and Julia, great grandchild, Trinity, sister-in-law, Helen Skuce, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Albert Skuce, Sr., mother, Lillian Skuce, husband, W. H. “Fitz” Fitzgerald, brothers, Albert Skuce, Jr. and Richard Skuce, granddaughter, Angela Fitzgerald and son-in-law, Bruce Hambidge.

Lorrie was born in Wakefield, Rhode Island in 1935 to Albert Skuce, Sr. and Lillian Skuce. She grew up in Wakefield then left home to join the Navy in 1953. She served during the Korean War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

After her time in the Navy, she moved to Florida in the mid-1950s and made it her home. She married Fitz and they had their son, Phil, in 1961 in Lakeland, FL. They later moved to Brevard County and their daughter, Cindy, was born in 1967.

Lorrie spent some time working at Kennedy Space Center, but after Cindy’s birth she devoted her time to being a mother and caring for her family. She was an accomplished seamstress and began her own business in her Rockledge home crafting beautiful ball gowns and men’s custom suits, doing alterations and also furniture upholstery.

She became heavily involved in the Little League Ladies Auxiliary, acting as president during the mid-1970s while Phil was actively participating in the baseball league.

Lorrie was a long-time member of Rockledge Christian Center (formerly Evangel Temple) and was very active in the Dorcas Ladies group, who’s mission is to serve those in need. She was always an extremely generous and caring person who would do anything she could to help others. She and Fitz spent time working with children who needed foster care in the 1970s.

As the quintessential grandmother, Lorrie spent much of her time caring for her grandchildren while their parents were working. Her capacity for giving and caring seemed boundless and her faith in Jesus Christ was an inspiration. She was a treasure and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Family and friends will be received at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 US-1, Rockledge, FL 32955, on Saturday, December 2, 2023. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, and the Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 AM.
