John Anthony Waag, Jr., 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 29, 2013 at his home under hospice care. He was born in Heightstown, NJ and grew up in South Ozone Park, Long Island, NY. John came to Brevard County in 1964 from South Florida. He worked for Florida Power and Light for 37 years, retiring as Superintendent of Operations at the Cape Canaveral Power Plant in 1985. John was a member of the Eureka North Shore Masonic Lodge, #269, 32nd Degree Mason, Scottish Rite, York Rite, and the American Legion. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II in the Pacific Theater.
Mr. Waag is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of 45 years, Donna Waag; daughter, Jo Anne (Jerry) Guy of Lutz, FL; step-son, Scott (Susan) Windecker of Jensen Beach, FL; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; eight nieces; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Gertrude Morreto; brother, Donald Waag; and step-sons, Steven and Randy Windecker.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Faith Viera Lutheran Church at 1:00p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 2:00p.m. Interment and military honors will take place at Florida Memorial Gardens. Flowers are welcome, or donations may be made to Hospice of St. Francis in the name of John Waag. Florida Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
