Preceding John in death are his loving wife, Dorothy Kerr, his grandson, Bradley Lessor, and his eight brothers and sisters.
Remaining to cherish the memories of John are his children, Juanita Saylor, John Kerr Jr., Gerald Kerr, and Pamela Lessor. His grandchildren, Shaun Kerr, Lauren Merrell, Stephen Saylor, Bryan Kerr, and Michelle Kerr. His great-grandchildren are Peighton, Gavin, Mikayla, Avery, and Koral.
He attended Wilmington Air College, Class of 1949. John was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army’s 752 Tank Battalion of the 88th Infantry Division, nicknamed “The Fighting Blue Devils” until 1947. He continued serving his country from Homestead, FL in the US Air Force and then Reserves until his retirement.
John married Dorothy Elizabeth Neville on February 7, 1948. They were lovingly married for 55 years. John and Dorothy had 4 wonderful kids, 6 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. John cherished his family in Florida and North Carolina.
John and Dorothy loved spending time in Western North Carolina, Bryson City area. They shared their love of the mountains with their children and grandchildren. A life well lived, he will be missed lovingly by many.
John was a Past Master of Opa-locka 391. He was Mahi Shrine and a member of Miami Scottish Rite.
Calling hours for John will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Life Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 South US Highway 1, Rockledge, Florida. A visitation will occur Wednesday January 3, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 5950 South US Highway 1, Rockledge, Florida, with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM.
