James Edward Soconis, 81, of Cocoa, FL passed away Wednesday November 20, 2013 at Wuesthoff Hospice House. A native of the Bronx, NY, James moved to Florida in 1942 from New York. James was an Army veteran and received 2 bronze stars while serving in Korea. He spent 34 years working at Patrick Air Force Base as a Federal Civil Service worker before his first retirement. Retirement didn't last long for James, he quickly found himself working maintenance for the Brevard County School District at Cocoa High as well as Cocoa Beach High where he was awarded employee of the year for 1997-1998.James was a Southern Baptist and was Commander's Club member of the DAV, volunteered his time as a volunteer firefighter in Cocoa, and enjoyed fishing, boating and was a huge Gator Basketball fan, but he always kept track of Cocoa High & Cocoa Beach High's athletic activities.James was preceded in death by his wife, Betty in 2000 after 46 years of marriage, and also by his son, William Letasky, and brother Joseph Soconis. He is survived by his son: John Letasky; daughter: Darlene L. Kosko and her companion Jerry Kipp; one brother: Steven Honoski and wife, Jill; as well as numerous loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
