Born in Aynor, South Carolina, Jimmy was everything you could ask for in a son and brother. He was protective, caring and hard working. Those traits would serve him well throughout his life and service to his country.
Jimmy served in the United States Army and was a proud LRP, LRRP, and Army Ranger. He earned a Purple Heart for his injuries sustained during his tour in Vietnam. He served from 1967 – 1969.
After the war, Jimmy continued to work hard in his personal life. He retired in 2008 as the Maintenance Supervisor at Trinity Towers, Inc. Jimmy had finally earned the right to enjoy a simple and peaceful life. In his retirement he enjoyed fishing; reading Sci-Fi novels and Westerns; but maybe most of all, spending time with his buddy – Cooper – his miniature Pincher.
Jimmy was greeted in heaven by his father James Godbolt, Sr; his sisters Pat Stroud and Judy Godbolt; and sister in law Emma Jay Hummel.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary Lou; mother Marie; siblings Joyce (Julian) Jordan, Timmie Godbolt, Mary Harrelson, Jean King, Debbie (Maynard) Robinson, Ted Godbolt, Gwen (Ernie) Airington; stepchildren Bryan (Lisa) Gibson and their son Jake; brother in laws Larry (Donna) Bays of Montana and Robert E. Hummel of Melbourne; and several special nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends.
Family and friends will gather at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial Tuesday December 14, 2021 from 12:00PM – 1:00PM. A funeral service will begin at 1:00PM followed by full military honors. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the National Ranger Foundation.
