Emma Jay Hummel

On Wednesday November 7, 2018, Emma Jay Hummel, loving wife and mother of 3 children, passed away peacefully at the age of 72 from natural causes. Jay, as she went by, was born July 9, 1946 in Evansville, Indiana to Vernon and Mary Bays.

She worked as a Financial Office Manager during her working years. On June 18, 1971 she married Robert (Bob) E. Hummel. They raised 2 sons, a son from a previous marriage Wayne A. Brewer Jr. and Nathan E Hummel, and a daughter, Andrea E. (Mortonson) Hummel. Jay enjoyed traveling and the adventure of living in Japan for 8 years when Bob was stationed there for two tours while in the military. She was an Elvis Presley fan and loved listening to his recordings. Jay was also an avid Bingo player and enjoyed the friendship of the many friends she made while playing.

Jay was preceded in death by her mother, Mary, her father, Vernon and a brother, Rudy. She is survived by her husband, Bob, and 3 children, Wayne, Nathan and Andrea, her brother Larry, her sister Mary Lou, several nieces and nephews, and numerous grandchildren. Jay cherished the time she was able to spend with family, especially doting on her grandchildren.

A private service will be held on Sunday, November 12 for immediate family and a few close friends. There will be no visitation hours. Jay’s family asks that a donation be made to your favorite Children’s Charity in lieu of sending flowers. Jay we will miss you terribly but will always carry your memory in our hearts.
