Dorothy Rita Murphy nee Ward passed peacefully on June 9, 2021 in her 101st year. Dorothy was born in Bronx, NY on May 23, 1920 to John and Alice McClone Ward. She worked for the Dept of Agriculture before marrying Joseph Murphy in 1941. They traveled extensively with the Foreign Service living in France, Germany, Philippines, Lebanon, Sudan, Turkey, Ecuador, Honduras and Jamaica.
She enjoyed learning as much as she could about all the countries she lived in. When they returned to the States they settled in Merritt Island and following that, Cocoa Beach. Dorothy worked for the Cancer Society and volunteered with the Florida Guardian ad Litem Program as a child advocate and was an active member of her condo association. She thoroughly enjoyed working on her family’s genealogy and engaging in lively conversations on current events.
She is survived by her daughters Noelle Stanton and Valerie Seastrom as well as her 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and sons Donald, Kevin, and Keith Murphy.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at The Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 South US Highway 1, Rockledge, FL. Visitation at 10 a.m., Service at 11 a.m. followed by internment.
