He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Sara Rubino, sister Bettie Wiggins-King (husband Mac), brother William Wiggins (wife Cheri), nephew Benjamin Wiggins, and grand dog Bruce. Many will also fondly remember David as extended family. He is predeceased by his loving wife Lea Wiggins and parents Benjamin and Caroline Wiggins. David was born in Orlando, Florida on December 22, 1951, and then later moved to Rockledge, Florida with his family in 1965.
David served in the United States Army for 28 years all over the world. While stationed at Camp Casey in South Korea, he met the love of his life, Lea. In 1992, David and Lea went back to South Korea and adopted their daughter, Sara Lee. David was very proud of his military service, and remained a civilian helicopter pilot trainer at Fort Rucker after he retired. He attended the University of Florida and was a life-long Florida Gator fan. David will lovingly be remembered as the “energizer bunny,” always having an abundance of energy even during his ten-year fight with cancer.
He never met a stranger, and him and Lea’s home was always open to everyone. David would always invite those that were serving in the military to their gatherings for the holidays. He had a heart for helping people, and remained a mentor to many service members. David was also passionate about supporting orphanages in Korea and leading hearts to Christ. Golfing was one of his biggest passions, and participated in many tournaments. David won many senior golf championships, and would jokingly mention he did not know where he would store all of his trophies.
