He passed from this life to heaven unexpectedly on Friday, June 2nd. He leaves behind his beloved wife of almost 58 years, Cinda Carol Brown. He spent his life making every person who crossed his path feel special, and he loved making people laugh. He had a son and a daughter, Sean Brown and Dee Carroll, and three granddaughters, Dara Carroll, Katie Carroll, and Samantha Zhong Brown. He also leaves behind his brother, Glenn Brown.
He was proud to call Glenn (Butch) Brown, Tom Newnam, and Delano Thomas his honorary brothers, and he loved his son-in-law, Bill Carroll and his daughter-in-law, Ling Zhong Brown. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, cousins, family members, and close friends.
He worked as an engineer for over 43 years, and he ended his career working for General Motors at the Saturn Plant in Spring Hill, TN. Having an unstoppable work ethic, he went back to work at Mando Corporation after he retired. To keep his mind sharp, he enjoyed working math problems, and coming up with different statistical ways using the laws of probability to win at Black Jack. He was not a risk taker, so he would not play Black Jack, but he would not mind sharing his formula with someone else, so they could play and lose their own money.
Claude’s passion was his family and making people laugh. He would have enjoyed the fact that he passed away on Friday, June 2nd, National Doughnut Day, so everyone could commemorate his passing with a free doughnut from Krispy Kreme to remember him.
He attended First Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg, TN and Faith Fellowship Church in Melbourne, FL. He enjoyed good music-everything from the Eagles to Amazing Grace, Zumba, taking long walks, reading, and a mid-afternoon nap every day.
He was very dedicated to helping his family and his neighbors. He served as president or vice president of his neighborhood homeowners’ association for over 10 years.
Claude was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and family members. Claude and Carol had many adventures moving around the country to at least 8 different states making life-long friends along the way. Some of the states they even made return visits to because they liked them so well.
He enjoyed reading, working puzzles with his wife, Carol, and he wrote two books about the Civil War time period, Confederate Devil John and Stonewall Speaks.
Claude was a Renaissance man who learned how to make his own soda out of his garage, started his own business, Lightning Laboratories with his own spectrograph equipment, also out of his garage, where he analyzed coal and water samples.
Claude never met a stranger and loved to tell good and bad “Dad” jokes. He loved to take care of his wife and family and could be seen walking his dog, Sophie, or pulling up weeds outside his home. He always had a project or a mental checklist to keep him busy. He believed in having a plan for the next day before he went to bed every night.
Above all, Claude loved God and his family. He had a plan for the next phase of his life. He showed his family his love through his actions and his love of solving problems. Claude had a servant’s heart. He always had time to make a phone call to friends and family or to dance with his youngest granddaughter, Samantha, or cutting up an apple, so you would have a healthy snack. He was always available to fix whatever was broken even if there were a few extra parts left over when he was finished. His favorite times were when his family was together, whether it was a holiday, a graduation, or just gathered in the kitchen for dinner. He will be greatly missed by many having made a profound impact on so many lives.
A Celebration of Claude Brown’s Life will take place in the sanctuary at Faith Fellowship Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2023.
