Billy attended West Glover Graded School, West Glover, VT, and was a graduate of Barton Academy, Barton, VT. Billy joined the US Navy in 1945, serving during WW2 and after receiving an Honorable discharge from the US Navy in 1946 was then drafted into the US Army in 1950, serving in the 5th RCT in Korea. After receiving a second Honorable discharge from the US Army he continued his service to his community in Falls Church, VA as a first responder with the Falls Church Fire Department. His career of service to his community continued when he married Frances Bailey and they settled in Cocoa, Fl. He held the position of mechanic at Yates’ Sinclair Station in Rockledge, and was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. He graduated from Brevard Community College, earning his AA degree, and finished out his career as a first responder with 29 years as a Firefighter at Patrick Air Force Base. Upon his retirement, he found more time to enjoy his hobbies of woodworking, music, and paint and body work, as well as tinkering around with flywheels. Additionally, he was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Cocoa.
Billy Anderson’s legacy is bravery, love for God and Country, love for his children and devotion to his wife, until her passing in 2023. Even after Mom passed, Dad purchased flowers for her on special occasions, as he had so many times before, just so he could set them on the kitchen table just like she would do. He was a respectable and trusted friend to many and was so strong mentally and physically. He possessed a hand grip that even at the end would crush your hand. He was witty and wise. Some of his favorite sayings were, “We’ll See” and “Be Brave!” That is who he was, brave and determined, solid and independent, even to the end. He traveled far through his adventures in life; from farm work to the battlefields, from DC driving to Times Square and from bachelorhood to devoted husband and becoming a providing father. He will never be forgotten, always loved and in our hearts forever.
He will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife and son at Florida Memorial Gardens located at 5950 US 1, Rockledge, FL on August 24th, 2024. Public viewing at 1:00pm, Service at 2:00pm and interment at 3:00pm
